A male and female suspect who led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase were killed in a shootout hours after opening fire in a conference room, killed 14 and injuring 17:

Fourteen people were killed and 17 wounded after shooters armed with long guns opened fire inside the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino Wednesday, and two suspects were dead.

Hours after the mass shooting, a man and woman armed with assault rifles and handguns were involved in a pursuit that led to a shootout with officers. The two suspects, who were wearing “assault-style clothing,” were dead, San Bernardino Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan said Wednesday evening.

A call of multiple shots fired first came in at 10:59 a.m. from the area of 1365 S. Waterman Ave. The Police Department’s SWAT team was training nearby and was suited, “ready to roll” and responded rapidly, Lt. Richard Lawhead said.

Up to three suspects were believed to have fled the scene, possibly in a dark-colored SUV, Burguan initially said.

Several hours later, investigators exchanged shots with people who were believed to be the suspects in an SUV about 2 miles from the scene.

A possible third suspect is in custody, but has not been directly tied to the horrific events.

The shooting occurred at a holiday or awards party attended by San Bernardino County employees. Earlier accounts suggesting that the killers targeted the developmentally disabled or other groups that use the Inland Regional Center were incorrect.

San Bernardino scanner traffic suggests that people inside the building knew the identify of the man who was confirmed to have been involved in the attack, that he was acting strangely before the attack, and then left.

He and his companion then returned with long guns and improvised explosive devices. It is not known of any of the IEDs detonated, but explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) dismantled at least one bomb inside the building and at least one more (described as a “pipe bomb” over police radio) after the shooting. The pipe bomb was apparently thrown at law enforcement units during the chase, but failed to detonate.

I think it’s safe to say that this was pre-planned attack considering the number of people involved and the number and kind of weapons used.

One of the suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.has been identified as Syed Farook, according to reports.

Farook was linked to the horrific slaughter that took place at the Inland Regional Center, according to NBC News.

After police announced that two suspects — a male and a female — were dead following a car chase and shoot out with police, a search began at a nearby Redlands apartment linked to the suspects.

A man who identified himself as Farook’s father told the Daily News his son worked as a health technician inspecting restaurants and hotels.

“I haven’t heard anything. He worked in a county office,” Farook’s dad told The News. “He’s married and has a kid. We’re estranged because my wife got the divorce, and they are together. She doesn’t want to see me.”

Farook said he hasn’t seen his son in some time.

“He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”
