They just can’t seem to help themselves. Democrats can’t seize your right to bear arms by force, and so they instead intend to tax guns and ammo out of existence.

The legislation, from Reps. Danny Davis, D-Ill., and Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., appears to be a reintroduction of plan they proposed in the last Congress. That bill would have roughly doubled the federal excise tax on guns and rifles to 20 percent, and would have imposed a 50 percent excise tax on ammunition.

A description of both bills say the aim is to “amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the excise tax and special occupational tax in respect of firearms.”

Under current law, the federal government imposes an excise tax of 10 percent on pistols and revolvers, and an 11 percent excise tax on rifles, shotguns and ammunition, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the radical left is becoming regionalized, fragmented, and desperate, and for reasons they dare not share in public, they’ve become terrified of the American people.

They’re calling for gun bans. They’re calling for gun confiscation. They’re calling for citizens to be categorized as terrorists for exercising their right to bear arms and joining the National Rifle Association.

And of course, they keep pushing laws have no chance of passage out of sheer spite and contempt for the American people.

This particular proposal by Pascrell and Davis, like the National Firearms Act of 1934, seeks to make it too costly for citizens to own firearms or be able to practice enough for them to become proficient with them.

I have a better idea.

Instead of increasing taxes on firearms and ammunition, let’s do away with them entirely.

Let’s completely do away with the punitive $200 tax imposed by the National Firearms Act of 1934.

Let’s eliminate the federal excise taxes on firearms and ammunition, so that citizens can more easily afford quality firearms, and can better afford ammunition so that they can practice more often and become more accurate and competent marksmen.
