Here are two incontrovertible truths.
Truth One: Women are the fastest-growing demographic segment of the firearms market.
In recent years, women are the fastest-growing demographic segment of the firearms market, especially when it comes to handguns. They’re also making huge inroads into the shotgun and modern sporting rifle markets. Once stereotyped as a “man’s world,” the shooting sports have gone co-ed, and many women find a great deal of joy and empowerment in shooting with their friends at the range, taking classes, in competition shooting, and providing providing their family with naturally- raised, hormone-free meat through hunting.
Truth Two: Hillary Clinton and her supporters are desperate to turn women against guns and salvage her dying campaign.
Former First Lady Hillary Clinton has bizarrely gone “all in” as the first-ever American presidential candidate to make the core of her campaign the gutting of the Constitution itself. Specifically, Clinton has taken very radical and vocal positions against the right to bear arms.
Clinton has blatantly and continually lied about the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which serves no other purpose than to protect the firearms industry against frivolous lawsuits. Clinton wants the PLCAA repealed so that her friends in the Brady Campaign can wage “lawfare” against gun companies, bankrupting one of the few industries doing well under the Obama Administration, and putting tens of thousands of Americans out of work.
Chillingly, she also supports “the Austrialian example” of gun control and confiscation.
The “Australian example” would outlaw handguns, the most popular and best-selling shotguns in the United States, and most rifles. In specific, the vast majority of these firearms Hillary Clinton would outlaw are those models preferred by women.
It’s also well known that Clinton’s campaign will sink or swim based upon female voters.
Perhaps that is why Clinton loyalists in the mainstream media are so desperate to hold back the tide, and are engaging in a desperate bid to turn women away from discovering the joys of shooting and perhaps save her founding campaign.
Enter Clinton’s Media Surrogates
Marie Claire and Cosmopolitian are two magazines targeted at young adult women who have suddenly decided to step outside of their normal content to attack firearms ownership simultaneously. Nah… there’s no “in kind” campaign contribution here when Hillary needs help the most.
Marie Claire partnered with the notoriously anti-gun Harvard Injury Control Research Center to produce a very questionable study designed to make women fearful of firearms. If the aphorism that ” there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics,” didn’t already exist, this shamefully-biased hack article would have forced it’s creation.
The “study” is the front-end of a multi-chapter piece that feigns neutrality by providing some pro-gun perspectives from women, but structurally buries that ueful information far down the page, long after most people stop reading, and well after they’ve poisoned the proverbial well. As if that wasn’t biased enough, the series makes sure to end with anti-gun messages.
Cosmo contributed to the Clinton campaign by creating a condescending “boys who like guns are icky” campaign in conjunction with Everytown for Michael Bloomberg’s Ego Gun Safety that is so sophomoric and dismissive of the intellect of their female audience.
It truly has to be seen to believed.
Perhaps there will be a few people convinced by the ham-handed caricature of a “guy with a gun,” but I suspect that like prior Everytown attempts to demonize firearms for women, this will spectacularly backfire against them.
Women are smart. They are capable. They know that firearms are tools to be used by responsible people, and that they can be both empowering, and very fun to shoot.
It’s too bad that Hillary Clinton and her media surrogates have decided that lying to women is her path to the Presidency.
Then again, she doesn’t seem to understand anything else.
