The attack that saw 49 gay people murdered and more than 50 others injured in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub was the worst Islamic terror attack in the United States since 9/11. Some of the victims either bled to death or were shot again and again in the three hours Orlando SWAT took to finally take down the terrorist, while an unknown number of victims may have been shot by officers either during the initial gunflight or during a gun battle with the terrorist during the rescue.

Many Americans have looked at the 100 casualties in the night club attack and the extended length of the attack and have come to the realization that the police may not be there to save you, even when they are on the scene and know that lives are being lost. You, and you alone, are going to be the only person who can ensure your safety.

People are reacting to this reality in very different ways.

Some like the roughly 10,000 new members of Pink Pistols, decided that being armed for their own defense is the only rational response to such an attack. Top Gun heartbreaker Kelly McGillis just came to this same realization after being attacked in her own home by what appears to be a mentally ill stalker. She obtained a concealed carry permit.

Others, unfortunately, have come to irrational conclusions, and they are making their opinions known as well.

“Hey, ho, the NRA has got to go!”

That was what a newly formed LGBTQ gun control group, Gays Against Guns, or GAG, shouted as it marched down Fifth Avenue during the New York City Pride March on Sunday. When the shouting stopped, silence erupted as hundreds of people dropped to the ground as if dead. It was a stabbing reminder of the Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando.

GAG organizers said they performed this type of protest known as a “die-in” over what they consider political inaction on lax gun laws. They say it was a harkening back to the LGBTQ activism of the 80s and 90s, when groups like Queer Nation and ActUp fought for justice around HIV and AIDs.

“Our stance is a gut one. We’re outraged and we think something has to change. We’re in agreement with the consensus of most of the gun control lobby that there’s no place for civilians to have assault weapons,” GAG spokesman Tim Murphy told NBC OUT.

It’s obvious to any rational person that the National Rifle Association is not a terrorist organization, and they do not target gays. They have consistently said that good people should be armed to defend themselves from bad people who commit violent acts.

It isn’t the NRA which espouses a philosophy that condones throwing gays from buildings, strangling them slowly via construction cranes, beheading them, setting them on fire, stoning them to death, or hacking them to death with machetes. These are all things that radical Islam condones in official government policy in many Islamic countries in Asia, the Middle East,  and parts of Africa.

Gays Against Guns (GAG) is arguing that they won’t be safe until everyone is as weak, mewling, and ineffectual as they are.

That’s not a strategy for survival.

That’s a strategy to find yourself slaughtered.
