An OSU student who supported campus carry was found murdered this morning in an off-campus apartment, and he does not appear to be a random victim.
An Ohio State University student and a proponent of carrying concealed guns on campus was fatally shot early Thursday at a house near campus.
Tarak Andrew Underiner, 20, was found with several gunshot wounds by Columbus police when officers were called to a house on East Northwood Avenue just east of North Pearl Street at 12:30 a.m.
Medics pronounced Underiner, a senior, dead at the scene at 12:41 a.m. Police said early Thursday that they do not believe Underiner was a random victim and that the slaying does not have “ any connection” to the university.
The house is in an area near campus where most of the homes have been converted into apartments.
Ohio State’s online student directory lists Underiner as a student with a double major in marketing and Spanish.
A little more than a month ago, Underiner testified at the Statehouse in support of allowing concealed handguns on Ohio college campuses.
House Bill 48, the latest Republican-backed bill that looks to ease restrictions on where concealed-carry permit holders can carry their guns, has drawn strong reactions. About 30 witnesses on both sides of the debate turned out for a Senate hearing on Nov. 30, two days after a vehicle-and-knife attack at Ohio State.

A person inside the building reported the shooting and stated that someone ran out the door after multiple shots were fired. Underiner’s roommates are not suspects in the shooting.
Underiner was among those who spoke in favor of allowing qualified faculty, staff, and students to carry firearms on campus after a Somali refugee and student carried out a car and knife terror attack on the campus before being killed by a campus police officer who just happened to be on-scene investigating a possible gas leak.
