Washington Post Botched Gun Story, Asked for Help, Refused to Correct

Several days ago, the Washington Post’s Mike Rosenwald wrote what is either a deeply ignorant or intentionally deceptive article, Gun silencers are hard to buy. Donald Trump Jr. and silencer makers want to change that.

We quickly called out the deceptive nature of the article, as did my friend Sean Davis at The Federalist.

The heat on Rosenwald’s deceptive article must have been intense, because I was called by a reporter for the Washington Post that same afternoon—now three days ago—for technical advice on how to write a major correction of this particularly idiotic statement.

But gun-control activists say silencers are getting quieter, particularly in combination with subsonic ammunition, which is less lethal but still damaging. They point to videos on YouTube in which silencers make high-powered rifles have “no more sound than a pellet gun,” according to one demonstrator showing off a silenced semiautomatic .22LR.

.22 LRs are of course anything but “high-powered” but the author, Mike Rosenwald, continued to argue that it was on social media quite poorly.

Then something funny happened.

Absolutely nothing.

That’s right! After calling me and asking my advice on how to write a correction, the Washington Post apparently decided that they’d simply double-down on a known-false statement, and let the lie ride.

Dan Abraham, who runs the YouTube channel “The Firearm Guy” which Rosenwald decided to incorrectly cite, has now issued his own condemnation of the Post’s dishonest reporting.

The writers and editors of the Washington Post botched the original story through incompetent reporting and editing, and are now conspiring to keep a known lie in print… towards what end?

I can only surmise that after being repeatedly corrected and after calling for assistance that the editors of the Washington Post simply decided that they would rather let a known lie stand because it fits their political agenda far more than the actual truth.
