While the state of Massachusetts is getting ready to move into Phase Three of its coronavirus recovery plan, many police departments around the state, including the Boston Police Department, have yet to resume processing applications for Firearms ID cards (required to purchase a firearm at retail) and License to Carry permits. Most departments have resumed renewals for the licenses required to exercise your right to keep and bear arms in the state, but those hoping to become a gun owner, or hoping to exercise their right to bear arms, have been stuck in a legal limbo for months now.
On today’s Bearing Arms’ Cam & Co, I’m joined by Jim Wallace, the executive director of the Gun Owners Action League, who says that the organization has been in contact with the state’s Department of Public Safety regarding the delays. While the state police aren’t responsible for issuing these licenses and FID cards, Wallace says they’ve promised to reach out to any jurisdictions that have put gun owners in a holding pattern to try to rectify the situation.
That’s good news, but Wallace and GOAL are still asking Massachusetts residents to inform them of any localities that are continuing to play games with the Second Amendment rights of residents. Not only does GOAL need to know about these jurisdictions so they can inform DPS, they’re also seeking potential plaintiffs who’ve fallen victim to these delays in case they need to go to court over the issue.
Also on today’s program, we highlight an Arkansas man in jail on charges of aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm just months after he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in a previous shooting. Despite that felony guilty plea, Christopher Alan Whitman was sentenced to just four years of probation for his crime, putting him back out on the street.
Today’s armed citizen story involves two home invaders in Long Beach, California who were met with gunfire when they began assaulting the residents inside. Finally, our good deed of the day involves a Pennsylvania man who saved the life of a police officer trapped in a burning vehicle. Thanks as always for watching, listening, and spreading the word.
