Black Guns Matter During Civil Unrest

Black Guns Matter founder Maj Toure has been a busy man over the past few days, and I’m glad that he could take a few minutes to talk with me for today’s Bearing Arms’ Cam & Co about the recent unrest, riots, looting taking place amidst massive protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

In fact, over the weekend, Maj was in Minneapolis and held a free gun safety class at the shrine set up in honor of George Floyd. Toure was also in Tulsa, Oklahoma putting on another gun safety class on the 99th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, when large portions of the city’s black businesses and neighborhoods were destroyed and hundreds were injured.

Maj was back in Philly this morning, and we had a great conversation about what’s happening in the United States at the moment, starting with the idea that I think is held by most Americans: support for at least the idea of non-violent protests, but rejecting the destruction and looting that’s been taking place alongside the legitimate demonstrations. That’s a pretty common sense position to hold, in my opinion, but as Maj points out, there’s no shortage of forces in this country, including many media outlets, who seem intent on turning this into a black vs. white issue, a blue vs. red issue, or a right vs. left issue. Toure says the issue is really freedom vs. tyranny.

It’s a fascinating and thought-provoking conversation, as is generally the case when I spend time with Maj. I encourage you to check out the entire interview above.

Also on today’s program, we have the story of an armed store owner in Chicago who managed to cuff and detain a looter in his business, a Virginia man just released from jail who’s now back behind bars after firing at Chesterfield officers, and a community that came together to identify a man caught on tape tossing a Molotov cocktail at Spokane, Washington police officers.
