I’ve resisted the urge to write about David Hogg’s plan for a woke pillow company until now because, well, I think it’s dumb and very likely a troll on the part of the gun control activist. Even the Washington Post‘s glowing write-up of the new brand wasn’t enough to convince me that the topic was worth covering, but when one of Hogg’s fellow March For Our Lives co-founders rips into the idea, I think it’s officially become newsworthy.

So, on today’s Bearing Arms’ Cam & Co we’re getting into the pillow fight between Hogg and March For Our Lives co-founder Cameron Kasky, who’s been pretty vocal online in sharing his opinion, going so far as to call the move a “pillow grift.”

To those of you claiming I’m “jealous” about the pillow grift, I was actually offered free shares as soon as I started tweeting about it. I just declined because while I’m kind of a grifter, I’m not that much of a grifter.

That was one of several tweets that Kasky sent criticizing Hogg’s latest attempt to, uh, hog the spotlight.

I don’t agree with Cameron Kasky’s gun control positions at all, but having covered the March For Our Lives activists over the past three years, I can at least appreciate his willingness to take a contrary position every now and then, and this is certainly one of those cases.

Yes, that’s David Hogg eagerly anticipating buying a Tesla off of the proceeds from his woke pillow company. This is also the same David Hogg who’s previously complained that the “use of violence to acquire political power is deeply rooted” in capitalism and white supremacy.

I’m half-convinced that Hogg’s repeated inability to spell (or even use spell check) is another part of his trolling. It certainly ups the engagement of his tweets, even if a good chunk of the responses are some variation of “How on earth did you manage to get into Harvard?”

If David Hogg and his new partner William LeGate want to start a pillow company, I wish them all the best. Well, not really, but it doesn’t bother me. I think it’s a sad commentary on the culture wars, but to be honest it’s probably going to make them a nice chunk of change appealing to the sensibilities of the eternally woke, who will soon be able to rest easy on a pillow that was made by anti-gun progressives.

At least, we assume that it will be made by anti-gun progressives. Will Hogg and Legate institute an ideological hiring test before any pillow-makers take their place on the assembly line? Maybe James O’Keefe and Project Veritas can send hidden cameras in to the Good Pillow factory to record the thoughts and feelings of the pillow producers at some point.

The gun control pillow fight is an amusing distraction, but Second Amendment supporters have more serious concerns at the moment.

“Good on guns” is a subjective term, of course. What Kasky and the March For Our Lives activists would consider a positive most gun owners would consider an attack on their constitutionally-protected rights, but I’m in agreement with the anti-gun advocate that Biden and his administration aren’t going to be apathetic when it comes to their gun control agenda.

Biden himself has said he’ll use “must pass” legislation to try to ram his gun ban through Congress, and Democrats in the Senate are making noise about using budget reconciliation to pass bills without needing 60 votes. Gun control groups are also pushing the administration to start issuing executive orders dealing with firearms as well.

Gun control advocates acknowledge the president’s short tenure in office and the ongoing public health and economic crises, but say Biden must take action soon amid what they see as a worsening crisis of gun deaths in the country.

“I am hopeful this administration is going to get on with prioritizing gun violence, but it’s time to start,” said Fred Guttenberg, whose teenage daughter was murdered by a gunman in 2018, during a mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Guttenberg, who became a gun control advocate after his daughter’s death, said the upcoming anniversary of the Parkland shooting on Feb. 14 should add urgency for the administration to move forward on a broad plan that includes a legislative push and executive orders aimed at restricting access to firearms.

“This would be a really good moment to show Americans we’re going to do everything we can to not have another moment like that,” said Guttenberg, who developed a relationship with Biden after the Parkland tragedy and became a vocal supporter of his campaign.

The three-year anniversary of the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas is coming up this Sunday, and it’s entirely possible that Biden will use that as the backdrop for his first round of anti-gun executive orders. No matter who you bought your pillow from, if you’re a Second Amendment activist now is not the time to rest or fall asleep. We need a wide-awake 2A community to stand firm and speak with one voice in defense of our right to keep and bear arms even before Biden’s assault on the Second Amendment begins in earnest.
