The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport shooter told the FBI he was fighting for ISIS, according to FBI special agent Michael Ferlazzo. During the January 6th shooting, five people were killed and six were injured.

The apparent motive was revealed on Tuesday during the shooter’s bond hearing.

It is not clear whether the gunman organized the attack with ISIS, or if he was simply inspired by the terror organization. The group itself has not claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to Ferlazzo, the shooter said he had been active in jihadi chat rooms, speaking with others who were also planning attacks.

The attacker has confessed to the shooting and is being charged with “using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence; performing an act of violence against a person at an airport serving international civil aviation that caused serious bodily injury; and causing the death of a person through the use of a firearm,” says CNN.

His next court date is January 30.
