Good News: Constitutional Carry Is Back on the Table in This State

State Representative Wesley Morgan is reopening the debate over Constitutional Carry in Kentucky.

Last month, the Republican pre-filed a bill, known as BR172, for the 2018 legislative session that would allow Kentucky residents 21 years of age and older to conceal carry a handgun in the state without a license.

“Basically what we’re saying is you don’t have to have a concealed carry license, but it never was a requirement in the Second Amendment,” Morgan tells WKMS. “The government does not have the right to tell you to get a license to carry something that the constitution gives you the right to do.”

It’s important to note that under Morgan’s bill, residents can still obtain a CCW permit if they so choose, since Kentucky has reciprocity agreements with 35 states across the country (That just might be worth the extra $60).

If Morgan’s bill is a success, Kentucky will become one of over a dozen states that have passed constitutional carry since Alaska first did so in 2003.
