Gavin Newsom's 'Safety For All' Act is Safety For None

In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, Calif., Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom has introduced a new ballot initiative known as the “Safety For All” Act, which would ramp up the state’s already stringent gun-control laws by confiscating “high-capacity” magazines of over 10 rounds and requiring background checks for ammunition purchases.

The bill has met the firm opposition of the California State Sheriffs’ Association, who maintain that it would put peaceful citizens on the wrong side of the law without curbing violent crime. And helping to lead the charge is Sheriff John McMahon of San Bernardino County, who shared this firm and principled criticism of gun control as a measure against terrorism.
