What do you call the same gun purchased by different people?

Bearing Arms reader Shawn Kiddy made an astute observation on our Facebook page. He said

“Police purchase = “Long guns”
Civilian purchase = “Assault Weapon”.

Wow, the brainwashing couldn’t be more obvious.”

And he’s right.

When the same gun is purchased by different law-abiding citizens, it’s referred to as two different things by the media. Kiddy is right: could the brainwashing be more obvious?
