NRA Member Assists Police in Apprehending Fleeing Suspect

“I told him to get down,” said the homeowner. The man, who is a member of the National Rifle Association with a valid concealed carry permit, was just doing his part to assist local police in catching a few bad guys. “I told him repeatedly to get down and lay face down. My co-worker that had just pulled up — I turned around and yelled at him to go get the cops at the other end of the property.”

What’s this? An upstanding citizen, member of the NRA, concealed carry permit holding man with a gun assisting police?!

Hold on to your biscuits, Hillary – the “gun lobby” has lots of these good guys (and gals) in it!

“This started because Gaston police attempted to make a traffic stop on the two individuals due to a seat belt violation,” Capt. Adam Myrick with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said. “Actually, two of them – the passenger and the driver.”

The chase continued for about 10 miles through South Carolina near Gaston until deputies used a stop stick to take out the suspect’s car tires. The officer’s dashcam video then shows the suspect’s red truck pull off the road, and after crashing into a tree, the suspect flees on foot while the passenger is taken into custody.

But the suspect then made his final mistake, he ran onto the NRA-card holding, concealed carry permit waving, law-abiding gun owner’s property where a good guy with a gun took matters into his own hands.

“I told him to get down,” said the homeowner, who is a member of the National Rifle Association with a valid concealed carry permit. “I told him repeatedly to get down and lay face down. My co-worker that had just pulled up — I turned around and yelled at him to go get the cops at the other end of the property.”

The driver, Joseph Drafts, was arrested and charged with driving under suspension fourth offense, failure to stop for blue lights and breach of trust. The passenger, Heirbrane Foster, was charged with possession of drugs. Deputies thanked the homeowner for assisting them with Drafts arrest.

“I just knew I wanted to get him in a place that he couldn’t run and he couldn’t come at me or my wife,” the homeowner said. “I really just want to thank the Lord for keeping me and my family safe.”
