A Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said a San Leon man was shot to death after he allegedly forced his way into a Bacliff residence and lunging at the homeowner with a knife.
Sheriff’s deputies found the body of the home intruder, identified as Jerry Dewayne Hocutt, 44, in the living room of a home in the 4100 block of Roberts Lane shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, sheriff’s Capt. Michael Benavides said.
The sheriff’s office gave the following account.
The homeowner, whom Benavides declined to identify until the investigation was completed, called the sheriff’s office to report that a man had forced his way into the house.
Deputies arrived to find Hocutt face down, dead from a single gunshot to the abdomen. The homeowner told deputies that he fired after Hocutt lunged at him with a knife. The homeowner said Hocutt was yelling that he was owed $400 and refused to leave without the money.
Benavides was unable to say what sort of firearm was used in the shooting.
