It's Time we Bring These Little Blue Lines Back to America's Streets

Have you seen one of these thin blue lines on a curb or near the streets of your neighborhood?

Their message is one of support and appreciation, and I believe they are much needed in our country right now.

Anthony Welichko described what he was hoping to accomplish with The Safe Harbor Initiative in September 2015, posting a picture of a thin blue line painted on a curb with a note to law enforcement officers:

“To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate your service and dedication to keeping the peace. Know that when you enter the neighborhood and see these lines that you are not alone or without “back-up”. We do not need the media to make our voices of support for our police and emergency services heard (though it would be nice). Lastly, if you are in my neighborhood and mean to harm a member of law enforcement, know that decision may be hazardous to you health as someone has that officers back!”

In a clarification written the next day, Welichko said the idea “came to me as a way to show our law enforcement professionals that they are supported and appreciated. Too much attention ( in my opinion) is being given to those who wish our first responders harm and not enough to the majority that appreciate the risks these fine men and women take every day to protect us. This is not an organized movement requiring one to join, sign-up or reach out for permission. If you wish to show your support the same way I have then grab a can of paint and go for it.”

Also adding, “This initiative has grown into what I had hoped, the silent majority coming together to show our police they are not alone, are greatly appreciated and fully supported in our communities.”

Welichko was overwhelmed at the responses he received from law enforcement officers across the country, and posted a few just eleven days after the project was started:

A few of the responses read:

“Thank you from one that is part of the Blue Line”

“Thank You for your support … I was in Law Enforcement for almost 30 years and retired now for almost 10 years … Thank You AGAIN”

“Sir, I am a law enforcement officer in the San Antonio area. I just read about your Safe Harbor Initative. My family and I appreciate what you ate doing. Thank you sir for taking a stand for law enforcement!!”

“I am a LEO in GA and would like to thank you for starting the blue line. It truly is nice to know people still care about us. Thank you”

“As a 38 year police officer I want to say thank you. It is refreshing to see someone stand up for what is right no matter how unpopular it is. You are greatly appreciated and I will pray the Lords blessing on you and your family. Thank you”

…and that was in 2015, can you imagine the response this would get today?

I don’t know about you, but I’m grabbing a can of blue spray paint and showing my support for law enforcement in this area.
