Obama's Idea of Criminal Justice Reform: Set Criminals Free

The headline on the White House Blog reads, “President Obama Commutes the Sentences of 214 Additional People”.

People? Convicted criminals.

Obama commuted the sentences of 214 federal inmates from across the country Wednesday, proving above and beyond his endorsement of Hillary Clinton, his belief that “America is a nation of second chances”.

To date, President Obama has granted 562 commutations: more commutations than the previous nine presidents combined and more commutations than any individual president in nearly a century. Of those, 197 individuals were serving life sentences. And, today’s 214 grants of commutation also represent the most grants in a single day since at least 1900. That being said, our work is far from finished. I expect the President will continue to grant clemency in a historic and inspiring fashion.

While the majority of prisoners being released fall into the “nonviolent-drug-offender” category, a search of these criminals in the commutation database returned 156 hits for “firearms”. Although some may be multiple counts against the same offender, that’s a lot of gun laws being broken, Mr. President.

Is this why he feels we need more gun laws? Why would anyone bother to follow the law if they know they won’t get caught if they do like in Chicago, or be forgiven in the name of “criminal justice reform” if they do wind up being caught and sentenced?

Obama’s America = fundamentally transformed
