President Obama continues to be a champion of criminals, granting clemency to 72 more federal inmates this past Friday.

“What President Obama has done for commutations is unprecedented in the modern era,” said White House Counsel Neil Eggleston.

Eggleston posted the announcement via the White House blog Friday, praising Obama’s leniency toward convicted felons:

Following last Thursday’s grant of 98 commutations, today, President Obama granted commutation to another 72 federal inmates. In just an eight-day period, the President has issued two rounds of grants, totaling 170 commutations. With today’s grants, the President has now commuted the sentences of 944 individuals, including 324 life sentences.

Of the 72 convicted felons to receive commuted sentences, 8 were convicted of firearms offenses including carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime, felon in possession and illegal possession of firearm by felon.

Obama has granted clemency to more convicted felons than any other president in history and plans on granting even more commutations before he leaves the White House in January.

The convicted felons serving sentences with firearms offenses are:

Monica Lorraine Amaker – Bluefield, W.Va.

Possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base “crack”; possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine“coke”; possession with intent to distribute a quantity of morphine; possession with intent to distribute a quantity of marijuana for remuneration; carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime; felon in possession; Southern District of West Virginia

Sentence: 1. 87 months’ imprisonment; six years’ supervised release (Oct. 25, 2005); amended to 66 months’ imprisonment (July 20, 2009); amended to 46 months’ imprisonment (March 13, 2012)

Lasalle Boone – Portsmouth, Va.

Offense: Possession with intent to distribute cocaine base; possession of firearms by a person previously convicted of a felony crime; Eastern District of Virginia

Sentence: 240 months’ imprisonment; 10 years’ supervised release (June 19, 2008)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on March 4, 2017.

Justin L. Border – Davenport, Iowa

Offense: Conspiracy to distribute drugs; possession of drugs with intent to distribute; felon in possession of firearm; Southern District of Iowa

Sentence: 240 months’ imprisonment; 10 years’ supervised release (Aug. 11, 2003)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on March 4, 2017.

Howard Gregory Cromer – Rome, Ga.

Offense: Possession of firearms by convicted felon; possession with the intent to distribute at least five grams of methamphetamine after a conviction for a prior drug offense; possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense; Northern District of Georgia

Sentence: 180 months’ imprisonment; eight years’ supervised release (Jan. 25, 2008)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on Nov. 4, 2018, conditioned upon enrollment in residential drug treatment.

Mandy Martinson – Mason City, Iowa

Offense: Conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine mixture and marijuana; possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine mixture; possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime; Northern District of Iowa

Sentence: 180 months’ imprisonment; five years’ supervised release (Jan. 26, 2005)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on Dec. 4, 2016.

Cory Shane Peacock – North Little Rock, Ark.

Offense: Conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine; possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking offense; Eastern District of Arkansas

Sentence: 420 months’ imprisonment; five years’ supervised release (May 3, 2006)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on Nov. 4, 2018, conditioned upon enrollment in residential drug treatment.

James Henry Robinson – Fort Pierce, Fla.

Offense: Possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of cocaine base; carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime; Southern District of Florida

Sentence: 300 months’ imprisonment; five years’ supervised release (March 3, 2003)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to expire on March 4, 2017.

Adam G. Townsend – Springfield, Ill.

Offense: Distribution of at least five grams of cocaine base (“crack”); illegal possession of firearm by felon; Central District of Illinois

Sentence: 262 months’ imprisonment; eight years’ supervised release; $1,220 fine (April 20, 2006)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to a term of 188 months’ imprisonment, conditioned upon enrollment in residential drug treatment.
