Brevard County Florida Sheriff Wayne Ivey has never been one to mince words. Once again, he’s urging citizens to take a proactive approach to protect themselves from the terrorist attacks infesting the globe.
“We can’t afford to sit back and wait for the next act of terrorism,” Ivey said in a YouTube video posted Wednesday. “This is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family and those around if you’re attacked.”
“Folks, now more than ever is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense,” Ivey said. “Doing nothing, or just hoping that nothing is going to happen to you, is not going to save your life.”
While this makes sense to those of us who possess common sense and aren’t afraid to embrace our God-given right to self-defense protected by the Second Amendment, anti-gunners and hoplophobes are having a tizzy over Ivey’s message of self-reliance.
“People have been convinced of two things,” said Daniel Webster, who runs the Center for Gun Policy and Research at Johns Hopkins University. “That you are at risk at all times, which is not true, and that you will be able to handle that risk so long as you have your loaded handgun at the ready.”
But Ivey said it’s not a matter of your view on guns, it’s a matter of being prepared to defend yourself in a life or death situation.
“No matter who you are or what’s your position on guns, there’s no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife, is an armed and well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer,” Ivey said.
