Brooksville, FL Independence Day 'Machine Gun Shoot'

At Hernando Sportsman’s Clubin Brooksville, FL, shooters spent their Independence Day lighting up the range, even before the sun went down. The club’s annual “Machine Gun Shoot” welcomed shooters on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to fire off over 100,000 rounds to celebrate our country’s freedom.

Many Americans celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks and hot dogs, but these folks like to break out machine guns and shoot the living daylights out of cars, trucks, old washing machines, expired fire extinguishers, empty propane tanks and even bowling pins.

“When we do videos like you’re doing, there’s one thing they all have in common, they’re all smiling,” said licensed firearms dealer Thomas Hauslein.

“We just like to celebrate our unalienable right to bear arms,” Machine Gun Shooter Alyssa Almanza told WFLA News Channel 8. “We just like to celebrate that. Our own form of fireworks, I guess.”

Almanza was one of several women at this year’s event and happily gave new female shooters a bit of advice.

“Just really lean into it and make sure you can handle that power that’s going to come back at you – it’s empowering, no matter what gender you are.”

Looks like a pretty good way to spend Independence Day to me!
