While the investigation is ongoing, according to USA Today, the suspect in the shooting is a female. A 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl sustained injuries.

A female student at a Los Angeles middle school was arrested as a suspect Thursday after two teenagers were shot in a classroom, according to authorities.

The students were hit as gunfire erupted shortly before 9 a.m. at Salvador B. Castro Middle School just west of the city’s downtown, police said.

One of the students, a 15-year-old boy, was in critical condition and a 15-year-old girl was in fair condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

TV footage showed a girl with dark hair and wearing a sweatshirt being led out of the school in handcuffs.

“With the suspect in custody the situation is under control,” Sgt. Edward Bernal, of the Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department, told KTLA-TV.

A 30-year-old female also suffered minor injuries that were not gun related, according to the fire department report.

Last week ago, high schools in Texas and Kentucky dealt with school shootings of their own.
