Mr. Thorsness spent twenty-two years in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Colonel. In addition to his Medal of Honor Colonel Thorsness also earned two Silver Stars, six Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Purple Hearts and an amazing sixteen Air Medals. Shortly after he earned his Medal of Honor Colonel Thorsness was flying his 93rd mission and was shot down and spent six years in North Vietnam as a prisoner of war. On February 14th he will celebrate his 78th birthday. Please take a moment to read the citation of a hero.
