ATW: Wisconsin Gun Laws and How They Differ From Neighboring States

Wisconsin’s gun laws are lenient when compared to its neighboring states.

To purchase, own, and carry firearms in Wisconsin, residents don’t need a permit or license for handguns, rifles, or shotguns, according to the NRA-ILA. There is, however, a 48-hour waiting period for a permit to purchase a handgun.

Wisconsin is also an open carry state, which means citizens may lawfully carry a firearm in public. They may not, however, openly carry a weapon in a vehicle.
