Detective Jerry Walker was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in Little Elm, Texas, after responding to a 911 call reported an armed man in a backyard acting erratically. When officers responded to the scene they initiated contact with the suspect; and after a few minutes, he ran into the residence and began to fire on officers.
Walker was struck in the neck and then transported by helicopter to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries. After the 6-hour standoff with police, the suspect was found dead inside the residence.
Police Chief Rodney Harris said Walker “was a model officer and a person who will be missed here at the department and in the town of Little Elm,” as reported by Dallas News.
Detective Walker was 48-years-old and an 18-year veteran of the force. He also served in the U.S. Army and leaves behind 4 children.
