If you’ve seen the movie “Lone Survivor,” you’re probably familiar with Marcus Luttrell. He’s the guy Mark Walberg was portraying in the film, after all.

Since returning, Luttrell hasn’t exactly been all Hollywood, either. In addition to his odd film appearance here and there, he also works to make lives better for veterans.

The foundation he started, the Lone Survivor Foundation, is dedicated to similar good deeds. Unfortunately, good deeds require funds, and that means they need to raise money. Luckily, they’ve found a heck of a way to do just that.

A Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Compact pistol chambered in 9mm, sporting a special “Lone Star” color scheme and nicknamed the “Dream Gun,” will be raffled off by the Lone Survivor Foundation on Dec. 11. Proceeds will go to help military veterans adversely affected by Hurricane Harvey, which, according to some estimates, caused up to $200 billion in damage.

Retail value of the Dream Gun is $850, and raffle tickets start at $20 each. Sales began on Veterans Day and run until noon on Dec. 11.

Brownells and Smith & Wesson teamed up to create the special prize. “We are grateful for this chance to partner with Smith & Wesson to help support our veterans,” Brownells CEO Pete Brownell said. “Somebody is going to win a sharp-looking, custom M&P M2.0 Compact.”

The handgun is emblazoned in the iconic colors of the Lone Star Texas flag, with the custom Cerakote finish applied by Battle Arms Development. The M&P M2.0 Compact is one of the newest products in the company’s line, released by Smith & Wesson in September 2017.

The proceeds of the sale will go toward helping veterans impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As the Foundation is based in Houston, they know precisely how great the need is down in that neck of the woods. I’ve lived through a few disasters, and I can tell you that while Harvey isn’t in the news these days, it doesn’t mean Houston is even close to recovered.

There’s still a lot left to do, and there’s a lot of money needed to make that happen. To be sure, there will be donations, but companies can’t afford to be too generous, even for our veterans. That means cash is a must, unfortunately.

Luckily, the Lone Survivor Foundation is working to get some of that.

How can you help? Well, you can buy a ticket or two for one thing. (This page will be updated with purchase information as soon as we have it from the Foundation.)

For another, you can reach out to the Lone Survivor Foundation’s donation page at their website. This will allow you to not just donate for this project, but also for all their good works helping our wounded veterans get back on their feet, so to speak. There are many options, including ways you can help raise even more money for the organization.

In fact, even if you buy tickets, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to offer up a donation as well. Yeah, the pistol would be awesome, but all this money is going to help men and women who were willing to give their lives in defense of our great nation. A few bucks from us as a sign of appreciation is hardly out of line.
