Immigration Stance Proves Democrats Don't Really Care About Gun Violence

A federal appeals court gave Texas more latitude Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, to enforce a "sanctuary cities" ban backed by the Trump administration, but opponents suing over the immigration crackdown said it was unlikely to drastically change the status quo. It’s funny. Leftists Democrats, those who seem so determined to curtail our Second Amendment rights, claim they’re very serious about fighting gun violence and, by extension, crime. They want to take away guns because, they claim, it will make us safer. After all, if it saves just one life and all that.

Yet where is that outrage when it comes to illegal immigrants?

Recently, acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan was blasted by leftists after he argued politicians who ran sanctuary cities should be arrested.

“It’s outrageous that ICE acting director Tom Homan is threatening to prosecute state and local government officials for carrying out lawful sanctuary policies,” American Civil Liberties Union deputy legal director Cecillia Wang said in a statement.

“Multiple courts have ruled that the Constitution or federal law prohibits the Trump administration’s efforts to intimidate states and localities into participating in draconian immigration enforcement tactics.”

Multiple liberal courts have ruled as such. Remember how leftists applauded when a court ruled Texas had no jurisdiction to enforce federal immigration law? How did they not have authority to enforce federal law, but cities have the authority to completely ignore it? The two make no sense on the surface.

More importantly, however, is that the position on immigration betrays their hypocrisy on public safety issues.

Back April of last year, The Hill ran a post that has some bearing on what is to come.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Sentencing Commission reported that as of 2014, illegal immigrants were convicted and sentenced for over 13 percent of all crimes committed in the U.S.

According to the FBI, 67,642 murders were committed in the U.S. from 2005 through 2008, and 115,717 from 2003 through 2009. The General Accounting Office documents that criminal immigrants committed 25,064 of these murders.

To extrapolate out these statistics, this means that a population of just over 3.5 percent residing in the U.S. unlawfully committed 22 percent to 37 percent of all murders in the nation. This is astounding.

Illegal immigrants clearly commit a level of violent and drug related crimes disproportionate to their population

Can you see where this is going?

While Democrats fight so voraciously to defend illegal immigration and open borders, they create an environment where there is more crime taking place. Worse, they’re protecting this group that is disproportionately made up of violent criminals and who have no business in this country in the first place.

Meanwhile, they’ll keep on and on about how we need “common sense gun control” in this country to make us safer.

Frankly, it sounds like common sense immigration control might make a greater impact on the violent crime rates, so why isn’t that on the table? Why is that a forbidden topic of conversation?

That’s because Democrats don’t really care about public safety.

They target guns because it helps them look like they’re taking violent crime in the inner cities seriously, not because they actually think it will work. If they were seriously worried about crime, why not look at the roots of violence? Why not try to find out why people turn to violent crime and deal with that?

Because it’s a lot harder to grandstand when you’re trying to find the cause of something so complex.

At the same time as they’re claiming to want to make communities safer, they’re also advocating for open borders and less enforcement of immigration laws. They see the same information we do, yet they choose to dismiss it. They call anyone who points out these facts a racist.

The problem is, no one is saying that it’s Hispanic people that are the problem. They’re saying it’s illegal immigrants that are the problem. While there may be some overlap between the two groups, it’s racist to assume one automatically equals the other. Not all Hispanics are illegal, after all.

But illegal immigration is an issue. It’s a bigger issue than guns, to be honest.

So, before they want to come after my guns, they need to deal with the devils they’re actively protecting first. Otherwise, it’ll just get them labeled is huge hypocrites.

Again.
