Anti-Gun Groups Want Sanctuary County Sheriffs Correspondences

In the mind of a lot of anti-gunners, there are pretty much two kinds of people who support gun rights. There are redneck hicks and purchased politicians. Throw in the random pundit who supports the Second Amendment who they categorize and “NRA shills,” and there you have it. Anyone with any reach who supports gun rights is paid for, and anyone else is just too stupid to know what’s good for them.

At least, that’s sure as hell what it looks like from here.

That’s also probably why anti-gunners are now demanding all correspondences between sanctuary county sheriffs–the people who are refusing to enforce unconstitutional anti-gun legislation–and gun rights groups.

A national gun control group filed public records requests with 25 New Mexico counties on Wednesday, seeking any correspondence between sheriffs and gun-rights or gun-industry groups regarding local officials declaring their counties are “Second Amendment sanctuary counties.”

Kris Brown, president of the Brady Center, which supports gun control efforts, said, “Our law enforcement officers are our nation’s front line defenders of the law. If they are are refusing to enforce the law, they are refusing to stand in defense of public safety, and the American people deserve answers about what led them to that decision.”

But one sheriff, James Lujan of Rio Arriba County — one of the counties that adopted such a resolution — said Wednesday he never received any correspondence from the National Rifle Association or other gun groups.

“I only heard from the [New Mexico] Sheriffs’ Association,” Lujan told The New Mexican. “The sheriffs, we all talked to each other about it, but that’s about all.”

In the Brady Bunch’s mind, these sheriffs simply have to have been manipulated by the NRA or some other gun group. They can’t fathom the idea that someone can disagree with them based on their line of thinking.

As such, they’re convinced the NRA or some other group pressured these sheriffs into doing this. Either that or they bought them because anti-gun zealots can’t imagine anyone holding political office and legitimately being pro-gun. After all, look at the rhetoric about the NRA and how they’re buying politicians left and right.

Gun control groups outspent the NRA in 2018. Are those politicians bought and paid for? Should the NRA start demanding correspondences between Nancy Pelosi and Michael Bloomberg? (There’s no point in asking for correspondences with Shannon Watts. They’d likely all be written in crayon.)

At the end of the day, that’s what this is about, though. This is about their insane belief that everyone is secretly in agreement with them, it’s only the shadowy pro-gun lobby scaring officials into pro-gun positions that keeping their Utopia at bay. Nothing is further from the truth, and I fully suspect that Brady is going to be very, very disappointed to find that there were little to no correspondences between the sheriffs and gun rights groups.

At most, I expect there might be an email of support after the sheriffs announced their intentions, but that’s it.

Then again, weren’t a lot of these the same people who spent the last two years screaming “COLLUSION!” regarding Russia and President Trump? Maybe they should get psychological help for their extreme paranoia.
