Man Arrested For California Shooting That Left Six Wounded

Over and over again we hear that gun control will stop mass shootings. Restricting the magazine capacity or banning certain guns will magically transform the human psyche of a deranged maniac and make them unlikely to take a firearm and try to slaughter as many innocent people as humanly possible.

You know, the kind of laws California’s had on the books for years.

Guess what? It doesn’t seem to help.

Authorities arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that injured six people at the Oceano Dunes Natural Preserve on California’s central coast.

[Name redacted], 19, could face multiple counts of attempted murder, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday. It wasn’t immediately known if the Oakland resident has an attorney.

Six people were hospitalized following the shooting, authorities said.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says investigators believe the shooting just after midnight was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

The conditions of those hurt weren’t immediately available.

There was a large crowd at the park when the shooting started.

Six people were shot. I’m sorry, but that’s a mass shooting. We’re only fortunate we’re not talking about six people being killed. While it doesn’t meet the FBI’s definition of mass murder, it’s still a mass shooting.

And yet again, California gun laws did jack squat to prevent it.

Funny how often I have to write those words, isn’t it. We’re told over and over that gun laws work, that they reduce crime, that they’ll prevent mass shootings, that they’ll do all sorts of things…only to find that they don’t do any of them.

Now, in fairness, we don’t know what the deal was here. Was this someone trying to commit a mass shooting like Parkland or Thousand Oaks? Was this motivated by hatred of some type, such as in Poway or Pittsburgh? Or was this personal and at least some of those six being collateral damage?

Honestly, we don’t know. Not yet, anyway.

What we do know, is that yet again, gun control laws have failed to prevent a horrific event.

For some, gun control looks attractive because they want to see these shootings end. They’re willing to tolerate any amount of restriction needed.

California has every law being talked about already and then some. The state has had them for some time.

However, this is the third mass shooting I can recall in the state since November. The Thousand Oaks shooting was awful, then we had Poway, and now this one.

Maybe it’s time for anti-gunners to admit that gun control laws aren’t going to stop mass shootings.

They won’t, of course. Instead, they’ll double down and try and figure out how to justify more gun control. They’ll continue sticking their head in the sand and blaming the tool used, not the tool using it. It is the way of their people.

As for me, this serves as another data point of how little gun control serves to prevent mass shootings.

Also for me, I’m damn glad I’m writing about six wounded and not six killed. My prayers for a full and speedy recovery are with them.
