Biden Backs Anti-Gun Nonsense, Demands Smart Guns

Former Vice President Joe Biden is currently in the driver’s seat for the Democratic primary. While that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be the party’s nominee, he certainly is the candidate with the broadest support among party voters.

That’s impressive considering the outright nonsense he’s been spewing on topics like guns.

While all the candidates are pushing gun control to some extent, Biden’s push is more ridiculous because it makes no sense.

“We should have smart guns,” Biden said. “No gun should be able to be sold unless your biometric measure could pull that trigger. It’s within our right to do that. We can do that. Our enemy is the gun manufacturers, not the NRA.”

While prototypes of guns with integrated biometric locks exist, none are currently for sale on the American market. Biden’s proposal would effectively outlaw the sale of every firearm on store shelves in the United States.

Not only that, but he also appears to back Rep. Eric Swalwell’s “assault weapon” ban, a measure that would call for a buyback on all AR-15s and similar rifles, in part, with this bit of nonsense:

“I’m the only person that’s beaten the NRA nationally,” Biden said. “I’m the guy that got the Brady Bill passed, the background checks. Number 2, we increased that background check during the Obama/Biden administration. I’m also the only guy that got ‘assault weapons’ banned. Banned. And the number of clips in a gun banned.”

As the Washington Free Beacon‘s Stephen Gutkowski notes, no one has a clue what he’s talking about with regard to “we increased that background check.” During the Obama administration, there was no law passed that changed background checks on a federal level.

Of course, he also got “the number of clips in a gun banned” somehow.

Now, I won’t get into the whole “magazine versus clip” thing because we all know what people mean when they call it a clip, usually. In this case, though…

I mean, how in the hell do you ban the number of clips in a gun? I don’t know of a single firearm that will accept more than one “clip” at a time. Not only that, but the 1994 Assault weapon ban didn’t limit how many you could have.

It did ban, for a time, any magazine with a capacity of over 10 rounds…but there were already thousands of magazines that fit that description already in circulation. Additionally, the “assault weapon” ban accomplished nothing. While supporters claim crime dropped under that law, the crime rate was already dropping before the law passed and continued after it sunset.

Of course, I can’t be positive that Biden was talking about the magazine capacity limit simply because he was speaking utter gibberish. While that isn’t all that surprising coming from the former vice president, it’s unlikely that Democratic voters are even going to notice.

Then again, maybe in a world where smart guns sample DNA, there are also guns you can slap a couple of magazines into as well. If there were, to quote the former VP, it would be a “big f***ing deal.”

Since there aren’t, the biggest deal is that people are backing this man to be president.
