Univision Joins In Covering For Biden Over Autoworker Flap

As a former vice president, Joe Biden is supposed to be the guy who shows the world how American politicians are supposed to act. After all, hasn’t his party just spent the last four years decrying how President Trump lashes out at his critics? Of course, as per usual, it’s different when they do it.

Only, the real difference is how the media falls all over itself to cover for Biden.

Over the last few days, I’ve noted several examples of the media and Biden’s fellow Democrats trying to provide cover. It’s an issue.

Perhaps a bigger one, though, is how the Spanish-language network Univision has tried to spin it.

On March 10th, Univision’s evening newscast Biden’s unhinged response against an automotive worker during his visit to Michigan. While the vulgar language covered by the Democratic nominee was shown, the key feature in which Biden threatened to slap the worker along with calling him a “horse’s a**” was completely ignored.

Below is Univision’s coverage, in which they depict Biden’s reaction to a union worker who strongly challenges his gun control proposals as a one time occasion in which the Democratic candidate lost his temper.

Ilia Calderon: Joe Biden toured an automobile plant in Michigan and had a harsh encounter with a worker who accused him of wanting to take guns away from Americans, Biden denied, it but his reaction started out like this:

Worker: You are actively trying to diminish our second amendment rights and take away our guns

Biden: You’re full of s***, I support the second amendment. I have a 20 gauge a 12 gauge

Worker: You and Beto said you were going to take away our guns

Biden: I did not say that, that’s not true I did not say that

Calderon: On his website, Biden’s campaign makes clear that he is only trying to ban the manufacturing and sale of assault weapons, and the sale of weapons and ammunition from the internet- in addition to requiring background checks for the sales of all firearms.

Of course, there’s a whole lot more to the story than that. There’s also the threat of assault on Biden’s part. After all, he said, “Don’t tell me that pal or I’m going to go outside with your a**.” We all know what taking someone outside means.

So why would Univision provide such a truncated version of the events? Why bother to leave it out when it’s already everywhere else?

The answer is simple. Univision’s viewership is largely made up of Spanish-speaking people, many of whom don’t speak English at all. Others speak English but view most of their entertainment in Spanish as it’s their first language. They don’t really watch English-language programming from other networks or even the internet.

In other words, they know they’re likely the only outlet for a lot of people, many of whom are actually legal voters.

So, they spin for their boy Biden. They leave out the threats of assault completely. I don’t expect them to call Biden on his outright lies. Most of the media have no interest in that anyway, so they’re just toeing the line on that one, but they took the spin up a few steps by omitting some important information.

After all, they can’t let their boy look bad in front of a key demographic for the Democratic Party, now can they?
