Joe Biden is positioning himself for a presidential run in 2020. This has been clear for a while now, which is why he’s making the rounds on television. He needs to get himself out there after eight years of floating around in Barack Obama’s shadow.
In the process, Shotgun Joe was asked his opinion on gun control.

Now, let’s face a very simple fact here. The hero of Sutherland Springs would probably not have been able to take down the killer. If the gunman was wearing body armor, as the reports have indicated, it’s unlikely that a pistol shot would have been enough to stop him.
A bolt-action rifle might have, but in the event of a miss, the reload time could have been fatal.
No, the situation called for a semi-automatic rifle with a good round capacity, and that’s what hero Stephen Willeford had. He had it and he used it to save who knows how many lives.
Meanwhile, Biden’s anti-gun bias is as clear now as it ever was. The man who thinks you should just shoot through the door with a shotgun also thinks no one should have a modern sporting rifle.
The truth is that Biden is right about one thing.
The fact that some people with guns are legally able to acquire a gun and they turn out to be crazy after the fact, that’s life. There’s nothing you can do about that, but we can save a lot of lives and we’ve stopped tens of thousands of people from getting guns who shouldn’t have guns.
He’s right, nothing will stop some of these people from getting their hands on guns…yet why is he so intent on disarming the law-abiding hero who stopped the attacker? Why would he say that that man shouldn’t have had that particular rifle, despite it being the obvious best choice for the situation?
Because Shotgun Joe isn’t nearly as smart as he likes to think he is.
The truth of the matter is that modern sporting rifles are an integral part of the American way of life at this point in time. They’re common, they’re fun, and they’re useful for personal defense. These weapons aren’t going anywhere, and that’s because they work.
Even Biden’s pride and joy, the Assault Weapon Ban of 1994, was a complete and total failure. Not only did it not reduce crime, it did almost nothing to reduce ownership of assault weapons. They ruled a few evil features as too many, so gun companies adapted and provided compliant weapons.
Hell, even California’s ridiculously strict assault weapon ban did nothing to stop a deadly rampage in Northern California earlier this week.
All these laws do is inhibit the law-abiding, but Biden knows this. He understands that laws aren’t a magic wand that makes the bad people go away.
He just doesn’t care.
Like most politicians, he wants to score points. He wants people to think he’s being effective and proactive by making proposals that he knows won’t accomplish much of anything, but will make people feel better because he’s “doing something.”
That’s what it’s all about, at the end of the day.
