Drug Bust Also Nets Guns, But That's Impossible!

A recent drug bust in New York state resulted in 16 arrests. In the process, they recovered a lot more than drugs. They also netted a handful of guns.

From CBS New York:

New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Tuesday announced the takedown of a narcotics distribution gang in the Hudson Valley.

“As you can see here, we’ve recovered a lot of drugs,” Schneiderman said. “We’ve recovered cash. We’ve recovered guns.”

Officials say several of the suspects are members of the 600 Gang operating out of Newburgh, the hometown of 14 of the 16 people charged. The other two suspects are from Poughkeepsie and Paterson, New Jersey.

The drugs were often purchased in New York City and in Paterson, New Jersey, Schneiderman said.

Yet this is impossible.

You see, New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. I’m not even talking about New York City here, but the state as a whole. These are laws that New York residents were assured would keep them all safe and sound.

Meanwhile, we see a significant drug operation that also had several firearms present. I mean, isn’t that impossible?

Or maybe, just maybe, criminals disobey the law all the time, so what’s one more law to ignore?

I bet that’s it. Just call it a hunch, but I’ll bet that’s what happened.

Time and time again, we keep seeing the failures of these restrictive gun laws. They don’t disarm criminals, only the law-abiding people who have done nothing wrong but still can’t be trusted by politicians to have firearms without jumping through ridiculous hoops in the first place.

These were known gang members. That means they’d probably been caught before, yet here they were, armed more than enough for anything they were going to run into in their line of work and probably with the means to secure even more firepower.

That’s the result of so many of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s efforts in the state.

Whether he means to or not, he is making the state safer for one group of people. Criminals have less to fear in New York than they ever have before. They have nothing to fear from an armed populace because, well, there really isn’t much of one these days.

Not only that, but even if they have a gun, they’re hamstrung by things like high capacity magazine bans and other nonsense that Cuomo sold to the people as making New York safer but ultimately resulting in dead New Yorkers.

When will these politicians ever learn?

No amount of gun legislation will ever disarm the criminals. However, it will inhibit the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against aggression from thugs who seek to do harm to the innocent. Do that enough and the innocent will be nothing more than lambs to the slaughter.

Cuomo was so busy trying to look good, possibly as part of a bid for the White House, that he never bothered to even think about whether his anti-gun agenda would actually curb crime.

Then again, making him look good was the only purpose of the SAFE Act anyway.
