David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez Claims NRA 'Basically' Threatened Them

David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez, and the rest of the Parkland crowd have spent a great deal of time on television lately. They’ve gotten all the attention in the world–oddly enough, they get this while Kyle Kashuv is usually excluded–and they’ve gone to great pains to demonize the NRA and those associated with it. They called the NRA “child murderers,” for crying out loud.

Now, the two told CBS News that the NRA is “basically” threatening them.

“There’s always been people who are going to want to harm us,” Gonzalez said. “I’m not going to pretend that this like opened my eyes to a cruel and harmful world … When it comes right down to it, we already knew that this world was going to be tough. So getting death threats like that doesn’t really faze us.”

Asked about the NRA’s response to their movement, Hogg responded: “I think it just goes to prove what exactly they are. I don’t think NRA members are bad people at all. I think they’re responsible gun owners that want to become politically active and make their voices heard in this democracy, and I think that’s an excellent thing.

“I think the problem comes in when it’s people at the top of this organization that don’t listen to their constituents and continue to scare people into buying more guns, creating more violence, so they can scare more people and sell more guns,” he continued. “The people at the top of the NRA are no longer working for the people that are in their organization. They’re working on behalf of the gun lobby.”

Both Hogg and Gonzalez say the NRA has reached out to them, but not in a positive way.

“The way that they’ve been reaching out to us is basically threatening us,” Hogg said.

OK, let’s start off by saying that the NRA may get a fair bit of revenue from gun companies, but so what? Gun companies and the regular Joe who’s a member want the same thing. We all want the government to stop trying to take away our Second Amendment rights. I find it hysterical that an anti-gun activist thinks he knows the hearts and minds of the American gun owner better than actual American gun owners.

As for threats, I have no doubt they’ve gotten them. I get them from time to time and I have a much lower profile, so yeah, they probably get them.

But the NRA is “basically threatening” them?

Sorry. It doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Right now, the NRA is engaged in the fight of its life as politicians jump on the backs of these kids and use their rage to justify a proverbial grab bag of anti-gun proposals they’ve wanted for years but haven’t been able to get. At the same time, they’re being vilified as the evilest organization operating in the United States today. The last thing they’re going to do is threaten a couple of loud high school kids.

If the NRA has threatened them, I want names and specifics. Not any of this “basically” stuff. I want to know what was said and by whom. I want actual details.

After all, this is a day and age when people seem to think using the wrong pronoun is violence, it’s not hard to imagine something being twisted to resemble a threat by this crowd.

Frankly, Hogg’s credibility is precisely nil with me. I think he’ll do anything he can to get things his way, and I think the adults around him have no problem manipulating him so they can get those things too. Without specifics, I’m not about to believe him for a moment.
