I’m not entirely sure why Chelsea Handler is famous. I’ve never seen anything she’s ever done except spout idiocy on Twitter, but she’s famous none the less. I guess it’s true, America really is the land of opportunity. After all, we let her be famous and wealthy, right?

One of her latest bouts of idiocy, however, really makes a point. Not the point she meant for it to make, mind you, but it does make a point. The point she makes is that so many anti-gunners really don’t understand guns.

At all.

Well, I’ll concede that her armed guards probably aren’t killing children. Neither are the tens of millions of legal gun owners in this country, for what it’s worth.

However, it’s the claim that her guards don’t have semiautomatic weapons that was absolutely hysterical.

You see, armed guards have to be armed. That means they’re carrying guns.

Once upon a time, the revolver was king and pretty much every armed guard, bodyguard, and police officer carried a revolver. Every now and then, someone would carry something like a 1911 or similar weapon, but most carried the revolver.

Then, as times changed, the good guys switched. There’s no need to get into why they switched, just know that they did. They embraced weapons with a higher round count and much quicker reloading times.

Those guns? They’re called semiautomatic pistols, Chelsea!

In Handler’s mind, and many other anti-gun proponents’ minds, the term “semiautomatic” means something different. They envision the AR-15. In many cases, they envision the M-16 instead. Either way, they picture something big and scary, capable of mowing down tons of people in a heartbeat.

But the semiautomatic is the most popular action for firearms; both rifles and pistols.

They don’t know that. They don’t understand that.

In cases like Handler, they don’t understand how they’re slitting their own throat by trying to ban all semiautomatics simply because they’re protected by them.

A true semiautomatic ban would impact the vast majority of gun owners in this country. Everyone from the grandma with a small .380 in case of burglars, to the private armed bodyguard who isn’t exempt from the law simply because he protects the rich and powerful. They’re all impacted in some way.

This is what happens when people push for legislation and regulations on a topic they don’t fully understand. Handler is claiming that her guards don’t have the very weapon type that we all know they do.

Unless she requires them to carry revolvers or something, which I doubt she’s self-aware enough to even think about.

It seems that one of the titles Handler claims is that of a comedian. Well, I have to give that one to her. She makes me laugh.

Of course, I’m laughing at her, not with her. But when you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, that should hardly be surprising.

Then again, her inability to understand the topic at hand hardly makes her unusual in the gun grabber circles. It’s about par for the course these days.
