Firearms Being Stolen Out Of Tennessee Highway Patrol Vehicles

One thing we here at Bearing Arms typically harp over is that criminals will do whatever they can to get their hands on guns, thus negating gun control laws.

Of course, some anti-gunners respond that if guns aren’t available, the criminals won’t be able to do things like stealing the guns. It might be a fair point, at least on some level. I mean, there are already so many guns in circulation that I doubt you’d see such an impact, but in theory, they might have something approaching a fair point…

…were it not for the fact that even the police aren’t immune to theft.

Guns belonging to Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers are getting stolen straight out of the cruisers.

Since 2016, 13 THP service weapons have been stolen directly out of the squad car. Three of the stolen guns have been recovered.

The cars are already equipped with safes and locks to keep the guns from being stolen, but we uncovered how many times it’s not working.

“If you stole one thing you’re wrong,” said Memphian Jessica Townsend. “Hey, I got a whopping for stealing when I was (my daughter’s) age and never stole again.”

Most of the stolen guns were Glock handguns, but the thieves made off with three AR-15 rifles.

Whoops.

No one is going to argue that the police shouldn’t be armed. Well, almost no one. There are exceptions, of course, but those can generally be ignored. Even the vast majority of anti-gunners believe the police should be armed.

Yet we have several examples of guns getting out into criminal hands right out of officers’ police cars. From inside safes and locks, even.

Kind of makes you wonder just how pointless mandatory lock-up laws actually are, doesn’t it?

The truth of the matter is that criminals will do whatever they can to get their hands on firearms. They’re opportunists who will jump at any possibility. They’ll steal from anyone, and having a badge doesn’t make one immune from being a victim of theft.

And that’s something anti-gunners need to remember. Criminals will do whatever it takes to maintain an advantage over their prey. It’s up to us to take that advantage back, and that means an armed citizenry. The bad guys are going to get guns, even if they have to steal them out of police cars, or if they have to take them from the bodies of dead police officers.

That should make it obvious that gun control only really stops the law-abiding from getting their hands on guns, the best tools for self-defense for the average American.

Why don’t these folks just admit that they want to see law-abiding citizens killed?

After all, we can plainly tell that the bad guys are still going to get their hands on guns. They’ll get them any way they can, including stealing them from the police. Gun laws won’t stop them.

But you know what will? Armed citizens who refuse to be victims. That’s who it’ll take to remind these criminals that crime doesn’t pay.
