Outrage was a given. No matter who President Trump nominated for the Supreme Court, someone was going to be outraged. I honestly think that if he’d have appointed a liberal judge to the Court, his opponents would have still found reasons to be furious.
But he didn’t. He appointed someone who appears to value the Constitution to a significant degree, and that has Democrats all up in arms.
Senate Democrats on Tuesday said they fear he would close the door to efforts to expand gun control efforts in the wake of recent school shootings.
“Here is a memo to the Parkland students: If you care about common sense gun violence protection, Judge Kavanaugh is your worst nightmare,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, referring to the Florida high school where a gunman killed 17 students and teachers and wounded 17 more.
The 2011 case, known in legal circles as “Heller II,” is just one of the judge’s rulings that will get scrutiny as the Senate begins to look over Judge Kavanaugh’s record.
…
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said the ruling was a departure from the prevailing legal consensus.
“Even though five circuit courts have upheld bans against assault weapons, [Judge Kavanaugh] argued in 2011 against Washington D.C.’s ban because weapons like AR-15’s are in ‘common use,’” Ms. Feinstein told reporters Tuesday.
While that gun decision didn’t make it to the Supreme Court, a number of other cases Judge Kavanaugh was involved in did. President Trump, in announcing the nomination Monday, said the high court adopted Judge Kavanaugh’s reasoning more than a dozen times.
It’s like Feinstein is trying to convince me to support Kavanaugh even more.
In all seriousness, Kavanaugh has a lot of positions that the left is going to hate and not just on guns. Within the context of Bearing Arms, none of them matter. What matters is that Kavanaugh has been a staunch supporter of our right to keep and bear arms, a right that has been under assault for over a century at this point.
With Kavanaugh on the high court bench, we might be able to repeal some of this idiocy and regain our rights.
The fact that people like Dianne Feinstein and Richard Blumenthal are screeching out against him is proof that he’s just the man we need to regain those rights, rights that we shouldn’t have to get back in the first place.
If Kavanaugh is confirmed, every gun grabber in the nation knows their hopes and dreams are dashed for years to come. They know that any gun case that lands before the Supreme Court will be ruled on in a way that ultimately works against their goals, and that scares the hell out of them. It should.
Of course, the question is still whether a Court that includes Kavanaugh will even bother to hear Second Amendment cases, but I’m starting to think that it just might. If that’s true, the anti-gun jihadists have even more to fear from Kavanaugh. Not only will the Court hear the cases, but it’ll rule against them for the most part.
And I refuse to feel bad about that.
