David Hogg Announced Plan To Run For Congress...Eventually

A lot of 18-year-olds have lofty aspirations. It’s the joy of being 18.

However, since they’re legally adults, they’re told to either work toward that aspiration or just shut up about it. No one really cares because, well, some 18-year-olds aren’t much different from some of their younger peers. They change with the tide.

But, then again, most 18-year-olds aren’t treated by the media as if they were some messiah, either.

David Hogg isn’t your typical 18-year-old. His pronouncements are etched in media stone. So when he says he’s going to run for Congress at 25, he’s probably more locked into that than most.

David Hogg, the 18-year-old school shooting survivor turned gun-control activist, says he’s gearing up to run for Congress when he’s constitutionally eligible.

Speaking to New York Magazine, Hogg described his ideal seven-year plan, which culminates with him running for the House of Representatives when he’s 25.

“I think I’ve come to that conclusion,” he told the magazine. “I want to be at least part of the change in Congress.”

Hogg has protested Republicans including his home state senator, Marco Rubio — but he complained to the magazine, “Older Democrats just won’t move the f— off the plate and let us take control. [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi is old.”

Hogg graduated high school in May and is taking a gap year before enrolling in college. But he says he plans to go to college in 2019 and “read a s–tload of books.”

Yes, because that’ll help.

Seriously, the cajones on this kid.

I’m not a fan of Nancy Pelosi, but that’s senior party leadership there. If he’s going to make a thing of disrespecting party leadership, he may find a very cold reception when he’s ready to run. For better or worse, the parties are a key source of funding for campaigns, and they will refuse to back a candidate if they feel the need.

And frankly, her age isn’t the problem with Pelosi. I love how his lone criticism appears to be that she’s old. It’s like that’s all he can think of, the only reason voters should reject her. Yeah, this is a world-class political mind at work here, folks.

Of course, there’s no need to worry. I mean, Hogg’s gap year wasn’t exactly by design. He just didn’t get accepted at a college, apparently. At least, not the one he wanted to attend.

My question is, if colleges didn’t want the punk, why would Florida voters?

Well, they likely won’t. Oh, if he can keep his name in the media for that long, he’ll have an inside track in some of the more liberal districts, but he’ll still have to have more going for him than “I’m David Hogg and I hate guns.” Frankly, based on the nonsense he spreads around about guns and the Constitution, I can’t help but think a capable candidate will wipe the floor with him in a debate.

Then again, it’s not like anti-gun voters will care about any of that. Their messiah has arrived, and they’ll raise him up like good little sycophants.

For the rest of us, though, it gives us a good seven years to lay in some popcorn reserves for the auspicious moment that the kid decides to step into the political arena and starts getting smacked around by his own side.

It will be glorious.
