The Del Mar Gun Show in San Diego has been a mainstay of the gun community for three decades. That’s a hell of a run no matter how you count it, but for a county the size of San Diego County, there’s no reason it couldn’t go on for three more decades at least. There’s a market for it, after all.
But, it’s California. With the anti-gun sentiment in the state, particularly in the more urban centers of the state like San Diego County, its days were numbered.
It is an end of an era for the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in Del Mar.
After 30 years, Sunday was the last time the show will be held at the Fairgrounds, but gun rights advocates said they won’t be leaving the county without a fight.
The board in charge of the Fairgrounds voted in September to put the shows on hold to review its policy on gun shows.
Policy changes being considered for the gun show’s future included an all-out ban, a gun sale ban and an educational-only gun show.
It’s a shame, but it’s not as much of a shame as the nonsense anti-gunners are saying.
You see, the issue isn’t that the gun show is doing anything illegal or not following state law, which includes background checks on all firearms sold, even face-to-face transfers. No, the problem is that it exists as a way for people to actually – GASP –buy guns.
While Second Amendment advocates vow to keep gun shows in San Diego County, opponents say they will keep battling to stop shows here and in other parts of the state.
Sharpe said there are efforts to ban gun shows in Orange County, Ventura County and in San Francisco.
Of course, those same anti-gunners are complaining that they’re being “cast in a negative light.”
Well, suck it up, cupcake. The light you’re being cast in is dead-on accurate.
The problem here isn’t that they don’t want gun shows on public land, which is what they’re claiming. No, they want to shut down gun shows completely. They want to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to purchase a firearm.
California has some of the most strict gun laws in the nation. They’ve created so many legal burdens on gun owners that it’s a miracle anyone buys a gun at all in the state. Yet these people want to keep gun shows –which are required to comply with all state laws – from taking place.
“But it’s public land,” someone will counter, to which I say, “So what?”
It’s land that is open to the public to rent for holding events. That means the entire blasted public can rent it for their events. That includes gun shows.
But they already said they were going to try and shut down gun shows everywhere else as well. They didn’t specify gun shows held on public property, either. Why is that? My guess is that they’re just starting there. Next, they’ll pressure private event venues to deny applications from gun shows and eventually make it impossible to have a gun show in the state.
They didn’t specify because they don’t plan on just stopping with shows like the Del Mar one.
