While the failure of the school resource officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida is sometimes held up as “proof” that school resource officers won’t help stop school shootings, other examples show that they do. Take the Grand Mills High School shooting as an example.
The fact of the matter is that if you’re faced with an armed individual seeking to murder school children, you need someone with a gun on the premises to meet that threat.
Yet Baltimore city school resource officers are disarmed. That’s right; these police officers aren’t permitted to carry guns on campus at all.
Then, to make matters worse, the school board just voted to keep them that way.
The Baltimore City school board has voted unanimously to oppose a measure that would have allowed school police officers to carry weapons during the day.
The school board’s vote effectively kills HB31, which would have overturned a previous prohibition on school police officers carrying guns in schools.
State Del. Cheryl D. Glenn, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, said she would be withdrawing the proposed legislation from the General Assembly.
“I can’t move a bill that doesn’t have the support of the school board and the mayor,” she said. “The votes wouldn’t be there.”
The 10-0 opposition vote took place at a meeting Tuesday night at school headquarters on North Avenue after a lively public forum in which students, parents and members of the police union voiced their opinions both in favor and against the bill, each side citing data and other evidence to bolster their arguments.
I’m sorry, I can’t grasp the “thinking” here.
Gun grabbers constantly tell us that our students are all at risk over mass shootings, that we have to do something or they’re “all gonna die” or something else Democrats say to instill fear in people.
We’re also told that teachers shouldn’t carry because they lack the training, that’s for police officers.
But now even the police officers are disarmed on campus. They’re stripped of the means to protect the children in their charge. The courts may say they have no duty to protect, but most who wear the badge will do whatever they can to save innocent lives…if they’re just allowed to. Why, in the name of all that is good and Holy, would you keep these people disarmed? Why?
One day, there could be a school shooting in Baltimore. The media will go on about how we need to do something about guns and about how we need tougher laws on who can buy guns or something, and they’ll ignore this. They’ll ignore it because it doesn’t advance the narrative.
And on that day, I’ll become as enraged as anyone you’ve ever seen.
Anyone can see this coming. There’s no one to stop the slaughter thanks to the fearful stupidity of the school board in the city of Baltimore. The blood will be on their hands and no one else’s, regardless of what a complicit and complacent media claims.
