Somewhere along the way, National Rifle Association spokesperson Dana Loesch became the focus of anti-gun hatred in this country. She’s been targetted on Twitter regularly, yet she still had the courage to step onto the stage for the supposed “town hall” turned “two minutes of hate” sponsored by CNN during the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Since then, she’s been harassed, doxxed, and threatened. She even had to move because of threats against her family.
The anti-gunners fixation on her is unhinged. Especially now.
You see, two students from the school have recently committed suicide. Two deaths undoubtedly tied to events last year. While most of us would think to take a step back and start thinking about the mental health of those students who are still here, a lot of anti-gunners aren’t that rational.
Gun control advocates and the families of Parkland victims slammed Dana Loesch for her role in fighting gun reform after two survivors of the mass shooting died by suicide in one week. The NRA spokeswoman compared a CNN town hall with the families of Parkland survivors to the Salem witch trials last week.
A gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018. CNN reported that a survivor of the shooting died by suicide a week ago after suffering from survivors’ guilt and post-traumatic stress disorder. A second survivor who was still enrolled at the high school died by suicide on Saturday.
As the Parkland community rallied together, people around the country tweeted at Loesch about her comments centered around the survivors who started a nationwide movement advocating for gun control. Fred Guttenberg, who became a vocal advocate for gun safety after his daughter Jaime died in the mass shooting, called Loesch “pathetic” and said she should be fired.
Now, keep in mind that Loesch wasn’t talking about the kids who committed suicide. Here’s Guttenberg’s tweet for some context.
Dana, my amazing daughter Jaime was a victim of Parkland, you were not. You are a pathetic person. I am not a demagogue or part of a mob, I am a father who misses his daughter every second. The town hall was days after she was killed, we were in pain. You should be fired. https://t.co/WOT9kEuWwL

Well, people like Guttenberg are demagogues. So what?
Oh, and speaking of demagogues, we have Shannon Watts with her typical nonsense.
Says a woman whose response to tragedy is to use it to sell more guns to pay her @NRA salary. But do go on about needing God, sense and compassion… https://t.co/cGtHPhPdfL

Yes, because the NRA makes money based on every gun sold and not the willing donations made by people such as myself when we buy memberships and stuff.
How does anyone take this woman seriously?
Guttenberg, in particular, needs to take a step back. I’m not going to tell him to change his mind on guns. He’s a grieving father. Rational thought isn’t likely with him. I get it.
But on the same token, he lives in Parkland. He’s actually in a position to try and do something so there aren’t more grieving fathers out there. For all the screaming about guns and mass shootings by people like Guttenberg, these kids are killing themselves. They went through something horrific, the stuff of nightmares, and what happens next?
From here, it looks like everyone ignores them unless they can use them to attack the Second Amendment.
Nothing’s changed. Children are dying, and somehow these people want to say it’s Loesch’s fault or something. Well, guess what? It’s not, and it never was.
Maybe instead of attacking the Second Amendment with every waking breath, it might be a good idea to take a step back and make sure the kids who survived the attack can also survive after it.
