Yet Another Democrat Promising Executive Action On Gun Control

I’m just curious, is it a requirement to have never read the United States Constitution if you want to enter the Democratic primary? I mean, we tend to draw candidates from Congress and governor’s mansions throughout the nation, so you’d think they’d at least understand how laws are made. Then again, we get candidates promising to do things that are the complete opposite.

Perhaps most famously, so far, is Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and her promise of executive action on gun control if Congress fails to act.

It seems that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) wants to tell Harris to hold her beer.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., released a sweeping plan for her first 100 days as president— touching on a wide range of issues and pledging to reverse many of the decisions made under President Trump’s administration.

Similarly to her fellow 2020 Democrats, Klobuchar pledged to utilize executive action in order to implement gun control. While Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., pledged to close the “boyfriend loophole” — allowing domestic abusers to obtain firearms — after 100 days of Congressional inaction, Klobuchar said she would act “immediately” to block access for those individuals.

“Senator Klobuchar leads legislation in the Senate to close the ‘boyfriend loophole’ by preventing people who have abused dating partners from buying or owning firearms,” her plan read, “and she will take executive action to get it done immediately.”

She’ll also introduce legislation that would impose a series of other Democratic reforms — universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole as well as banning bump stocks, assault weapons, and high capacity magazines.

So, she’s going to decide by fiat to change what federal law says.

Um…no. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

Then we have the typical anti-gun checklist that also proves Klobuchar doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about. Both universal background checks and closing the gun show loophole? The so-called “gun show loophole” is nothing more than individuals connecting at a gun show and conducting a face-to-face transfer on the premises. If you passed universal background checks, that would become illegal, yet Klobuchar thinks these are two separate things?

Bump stocks are already banned, but I guess they’re not banned enough?

Of course, Klobuchar has also come out in support of Rep. Alexandria Occasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) Green New Deal, so I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised at the fact that she doesn’t understand much of anything.

If there’s an upside, it’s that this woman is polling at a single percent. While that’s better than someone like Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), it’s not by much.

This attempt at radically undermining the Second Amendment is nothing more than an attempt to garner support from the still undecided Democratic voters.  Woo enough of them and she may hold on long enough to impact the election outcome. The problem is that this comes across like a desperate gambit rather than a well thought out policy position.

She’s struggling to keep her campaign afloat, so she’s rolling harder to the left in a desperate bid for relevancy. In the process, she’s willing to completely, and totally, ignore the Constitution to do it.
