Michigan Man Arrested After Theft Of Firearms From Store

On the surface, the entirety of the gun control debate is about how to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Now, granted, most of us want to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Those who most want to arm criminals are, of course, criminals. We can dismiss their opinions right out of the gate. For the rest of us, though, the idea is to disarm the bad guys.

Pro-gunners, however, are most concerned about maintaining their ability to buy and own firearms. After all, bad guys are going to get guns no matter what we do.

Anti-gunners, though, go a different direction. They really think gun control works.

Of course, if that’s the case, maybe they’d care to explain this gentleman.

A report of guns being taken from a southside Lansing store has led to the arrest of a Lansing man.

According to Lansing Police and the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, Brandon Winter, 24, of Lansing, was arrested after the Stock + Field department store on East Edgewood Boulevard reported Tuesday that several firearms had been taken from the store.

Winter was located, arrested and is in custody today.

Alright, show of hands. How many of you think he didn’t fill out a Form 4473 and undergo the federally mandated background check?

Wow. That’s a lot of hands.

Of course, you’re right. People like Mr. Winter (allegedly) never go through all of that. They bypass it by stealing guns or buying guns that are on the black market. They don’t follow gun control laws because, well, they don’t follow any law they don’t wish to follow.

Keep in mind that stealing is quite illegal. There’s no debate over it being wrong, even. That’s a point we can all pretty much agree on, right? Stealing = bad.

Yet Winter is alleged to have stolen several firearms. That’s a crime in and of itself, so why would anyone think that someone who would break such cut-and-dried laws as those surrounding stealing would somehow adhere to gun control? The entire idea is absolute lunacy, yet that’s what we get from the gun control crowd.

Gun control laws won’t stop people like Winter. They’ll get in the way of law-abiding people wishing to exercise their constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms. They’ll get in the way of pizza drivers whose lives are threatened. They’ll hurt the teenager trying to save his mother’s life. It hurts the father trying to repel a trio of attackers. The list is endless, really.

But it won’t really hurt the bad guys. They’ll keep getting guns no matter what you do.

If this story does nothing else, it should remind anti-gun voices that the problem isn’t that we don’t have enough gun control. The problem is that we have too many people who simply don’t care about the laws of this land and will do what they want regardless of them. Until we address that, we’ll never have peace and quiet. Don’t believe me? Look at London sometime.
