Hunter Biden is President Joe Biden’s only living son, and he’s kind of a screw-up. There’s the drugs, the allegations of influence peddling, and the fact that he was on the board of an energy company with absolutely no background in energy, but whatever. Still, the elder Biden has kept that distraction at a distance with the help of a complicit media and focused on more important things, like blaming our nation’s ills on guns.
He did that in a speech on Wednesday, much of which focused on blaming gun stores. At least, that’s what he said when he wasn’t suggesting the use of nuclear weapons on American citizens.
That’s not really surprising. However, as Townhall‘s Katie Pavlich points out prior to the president’s speech, Biden could start much closer to home.
On Wednesday afternoon President Joe Biden will join Attorney General Merrick Garland at the White House to announce new initiatives to reduce “gun violence” as crime across the country continues to skyrocket.
“Gun dealers across the country are regulated by federal law that is enforced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Dealers that fail to comply with their obligations under the law create risks for all of us. Today, the Justice Department is announcing a new policy to underscore zero tolerance for willful violations of the law by federally licensed firearms dealers that put public safety at risk,” the White House released about the plan. “Absent extraordinary circumstances that would need to be justified to the Director, ATF will seek to revoke the licenses of dealers the first time that they violate federal law by willfully 1) transferring a firearm to a prohibited person, 2) failing to run a required background check, 3) falsifying records, such as a firearms transaction form, 4) failing to respond to an ATF tracing request, or 5) refusing to permit ATF to conduct an inspection in violation of the law.”
The administration plans to crack down on dealers through the Department of Justice and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, but what about focusing on individuals who lie on federal background check forms? Like Hunter Biden, for example.
Hunter reportedly lied on a Form 4473 when he purchased a firearm after claiming he wasn’t using any illicit substances. This despite his laptop showing that yeah, he really was.
Frankly, as things currently stand, Biden has no moral standing to call for gun control or to blame gun stores as somehow the source of guns for violent criminals when he’s protected his own son’s illegal gun purchase.
It should be noted, though, that the gun store in question actually did nothing wrong. Hunter is the one who lied, fraudulently purchasing a firearm when he knew he was ineligible. The gun store didn’t have that knowledge since this was before the laptop.
While the White House is making it out like most of our gun stores are just funneling illegal guns onto our streets, Hunter Biden’s willful disregard for the law remains unpunished. If the president wants to be taken seriously on this issue, he needs to start in his own house. Hunter needs to be prosecuted for his misdeeds.
Instead, what Biden is telling us is that while he wants to destroy people’s lives over what may be simple paperwork errors, he doesn’t want his own precious son to be inconvenienced for perjuring himself on an official government document.
Rules for thee but not for me, apparently.
Meanwhile, Democrats like Biden pretend they’re for the little guy, but it’s clear what he cares most about is making sure his precious boy never gets punished for his crimes.
As such, Hunter Biden will remain an albatross around the President’s neck for the rest of his administration.
