There are a lot of people who are more than a little unhinged over the Rittenhouse verdict. In their mind, the act of self-defense isn’t self-defense if they happen to agree with the folks trying to kill the person. Honestly, it’s more than a little alarming how all that goes down.
A whole lot of folks have talked smack since the verdict. They swore a black man couldn’t get justice but a white killer could walk–just days before three men were convicted of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.
Yet despite all that, most of them were at least non-threatening.
That wasn’t true for everyone, though.
A deranged Missouri man threatened to kill students at a high school “in the name of Kyle Rittenhouse,” police said.
Mitchell Lovelace, 27, posted on Snapchat Saturday that he planned to shoot up Festus High School in honor of the Illinois teen, according to charging documents cited by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
…
Lovelace, who was later arrested at his Festus home, has been charged with making a terrorist threat, according to Jefferson County prosecutors.
“I’m going to shoot Festus High School students in the name of Kyle Rittenhouse,” Lovelace’s post read, KMOV reported.
Another post by Lovelace warned that “no wonder schools get shot, the news just proved we can get away with it especially if it’s a [expletive] like Festus,” charging documents read.
Of course, supporters of Rittenhouse wouldn’t say the verdicts “proved we can get away with it,” which is how you know which side of the political fence he’s sitting on.
I wonder if that’s going to be all over the media going forward? I mean, someone talks in an abstract way about it being time to use their rifles and the media loses its ever-loving mind, but we’ve got this jackwagon talking about shooting up a specific target because of the Rittenhouse verdict and we’re not seeing them say anything.
It’s downright infuriating.
Regardless of his politics, though, Lovelace is clearly a deranged man, and I, for one, am glad to see him locked up so he can’t hurt anyone else.
It should be noted that any potential shooting there has been averted without the use of any red flag law. You know, that law that we’ve simply got to have everywhere to stop a mass shooting? Yeah, that one. Didn’t need it. I mean, threatening to shoot up a school is a crime and so no one needs a red flag law in a case like that.
And there are a lot of other cases, too.
With luck, Lovelace will both spend time incarcerated and get the mental help he so clearly needs.
In the meantime, let’s remember this one when people talk about how all the potential for violence actually rests on the right; as if no one on the left would ever do anything horrible. We can see just how much that is total BS now.
Frankly, it’s no wonder that this hasn’t gotten more play in the media. Especially since they haven’t let go of the Rittenhouse verdict themselves.
