The Philadelphia arrest that simply couldn't have happened

Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, is a city without a lot of brotherly love. Violence is rampant and even things that happen in the aftermath are seemingly ridiculous.

But that is just the kind of ridiculous thing that can happen.

However, when it comes to gun control, there are things we’ve been told are absolutely essential in trying to curb violence in a place like Philly. After all, gun control works, according to these folks.

So I suppose this arrest is simply unpossible.

Detectives from multiple agencies have announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man accused of illegally purchasing guns from various firearm stores in Pennsylvania.

The investigation was a joint operation involving the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, the Office of Attorney General’s Gun Violence Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to authorities, 25-year-old Deon Lamont Hudson of Philadelphia was arrested on Friday.

He was charged with 39 counts of unlawful sale or transfer of a firearm and conspiracy to commit the unlawful sale or transfer of a firearm, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Investigators say Hudson purchased 16 firearms at 8 different gun stores across Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties between August 2020 and November 2021.

No, no, no, no, no. This must be a mistake.

I have it on good authority that gun control works, that criminals simply can’t find a way around firearm laws. This arrest simply must be a mistake because this kind of thing can’t happen.

Only, it does happen. It happens all the time.

See, when you create new gun control laws, criminals will find a way around them. It’s kind of their whole schtick, after all.

The only way to stop straw buys from happening is to stop all legal gun sales. Even then, though, criminals will still get guns. All that will do is force them to use a different method.

That’s what the anti-Second Amendment types keep failing to understand. This arrest in Philadelphia? It’s never going to stop. That’s not going to be the last one and there’s literally no set of laws you can concoct that will prevent straw buys.

“But the gun stores–”

Shut the hell up. You don’t understand jack squat about gun stores. The vast majority of gun stores do not sell when it’s clear there’s a straw buyer involved. However, any straw buyer with intelligence isn’t going to walk in with another party, let them shop for the gun, and then say, “No, it’s for me” more than once.

It might happen the first time, but after that, they’ll walk in like they’re the buyer. They won’t send any signals otherwise and the unsuspecting guy at the store will make the sale, never knowing something is amiss.

The clumsy attempt at straw buys isn’t as common as people like to believe.

And because of that, gun control will never keep firearms out of the hands of bad guys. It simply can’t. Even if you sealed up the borders tight as a drum, you still won’t keep guns out of criminal hands.

Since even that is impossible, it’s even less likely to make gun control work.

The arrest in Philadelphia is hardly the first such arrest. It won’t be the last such arrest, either. Not by a longshot.

It’s well past time to stop focusing on the tool and focus on the tool using it. Criminals use firearms. Focus on them and stop this insanity. Gun control cannot work and it will not work. It’s time to try something else that might actually make a difference.

Because the straw buyers you shall have with you always.
