NYC teen branished loaded gun on schoolyard

For decades, schools have been gun-free zones. You can’t carry a firearm lawfully on school property in a number of states no matter whether you have a permit or not. In New York City, it’s even more of a thing.

After all, in NYC, permits are impossible to get for most folks. Guns are so tightly controlled that if anti-Second Amendment advocates are correct, it should be the safest city in the country. Not only that, but their schoolyards should be especially safe.

Yeah, about that…

Two Bronx teenagers were caught in their schoolyard handling a loaded gun Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The 16- and 17-year-old students were spotted by school safety agents passing the tan-colored gun back and forth just after noon outside Bronx Mott Hall school in Claremont, school safety sources said.

Each teen claimed the gun belonged to the other, and both were taken into custody, police said.

Education Department spokeswoman Jenna Lyle said “dangerous items of any kind are not tolerated in our schools. Our outstanding school staff and school safety agents immediately and safely recovered this item, ensuring that all students and staff are safe. All protocols were followed, and we are working closely with NYPD regarding followup actions.”

Well, goody for you guys.

However, let’s take a look at the issue of the gun and not what school officials did. The firearm clearly belonged to one of the two.

This means a teenager in the most gun-controlled city in the entire country–a city with gun control not unlike some European nations–got a firearm and took it to the kind of place that is also heavily gun controlled.

I don’t know, but it kind of sounds like gun control doesn’t work worth a damn.

After all, there’s no way this teen legally obtained that firearm. Considering how difficult it is to lawfully buy a firearm in NYC, it’s not even particularly likely he lifted it from his parents’ nightstand, either. This means someone not even old enough to vote was able to find and obtain a firearm illegally.

And let’s face it, they were handing the gun back and forth on the schoolyard. I don’t think this is NYC’s best and brightest at work here.

If someone that stupid can find a source for an illegal firearm, pretty much anyone can. It simply cannot be all that difficult to do.

So tell me again how gun control keeps guns out of the wrong hands? Is anyone going to try and tell me that these kids are the right hands? Nah, I didn’t think so.

Look, gun control is never going to work simply because people will still be able to get guns. If gun control didn’t interfere with the right of law-abiding citizens to get guns, I wouldn’t care so much. The problem is that, unlike other laws that get broken all the time such as murder and burglary, gun control laws interfere with my rights.

NYC has all the gun control laws they could want, and yet they also have stuff like this happens. Clearly, those gun control laws are doing a bang-up job.
