Livestreaming Bad Guy Discovers Glory of FAFO

Bad guys do all kinds of stupid things. Most of them think they're too smart for the police, that they can get away with anything because they're brilliant and untouchable, but the truth is most of them are functional morons. They get away with things for a while based on pure luck.

The thing about luck, though, is that it runs out, and when you try to tangle with police while livestreaming it to Facebook, it's going to run out faster than you think.

Yes, you read that right. The bad guy in question decided to livestream his stupidity.

A 36-year-old man in York County was shot by police last weekend after he pointed a gun at officers while livestreaming the incident on Facebook, according to a police report.

Hellam Township Police were sent to the first block of Wilton Circle in Wrightsville around 10 a.m. on Jan. 18, after several neighbors said Lance Livengood, of Wrightsville, was behaving erratically and threatening his own life while in possession of multiple guns.

As police arrived in the area Livengood said the following on the livestream.

“These little [expletives] out there are a joke,” he said. “I walk up there and uh, I couldn’t see them at first. And then I see both of them going left to right, east to west just like all them drones.”

When Livengood said one of the officers had a gun, he said, “I should have shot him for this. He had a gun in his hand. Oh he did. One point he was pointed right in my window, right where my son was. I’m not even that mad cuz its funny as [expletive].”

...

Right before Livengood stepped outside the front door, he said the following, according to the affidavit:

“I’m not going to use it but I am just going to, because if I walk out with no gun, then they can’t use that as an excuse why they didn’t shoot me. I walk out there pointing my gun at them and they don’t shoot me just like I did. I am going to walk out and prove it to use guys. They probably already left,” the affidavit said.

Police told Livengood to drop the gun, which he ignored, before police shot him multiple times, according to the police report. Police then secured Livengood and the firearm before stopping the livestream.

Livengood was transported to the hospital where he's in stable condition.

He was undoubtedly having some kind of a mental health episode, but it also sounds like he still had enough sense to know that pointing a gun at police was a good way to get shot. It sounds like he thought he was invincible and while he claimed he wouldn't use his gun, he also casually talked about how he "should" have shot an officer.

He was undoubtedly dangerous, but he also is a case study in "F*** around and find out," also known as FAFO.

If you decide to tangle with police, while brandishing a gun, do not be surprised when you get lit up like a Christmas tree. You deserve it because you're being a complete idiot.

I'm pretty quick to point out that the police shouldn't get special privileges that don't line up with our rights--they shouldn't be able to own guns that you and I can't own simply because of who they work for, for example--but I will acknowledge that they have reason to believe they're going to be shot, reasons far beyond and far more likely to happen than most of us will ever experience.

That means they're not going to play around with you. If they tell you to drop the gun, you either drop it or you get shot. It's not a difficult concept to understand. It doesn't matter if you're in the midst of a mental health crisis or not. If you're a dangerous animal, you get put down like a dangerous animal.

More accurately, you're shot until you stop acting like a dangerous animal. Death just happens to be a common side effect of this treatment.

Livengood managed to evade that, but he got what he was asking for.
