NRA Blasts Everytown Over Jay Jones Endorsement...Which They Still Haven't Rescinded

Anti-gun organizations have tried to paint the National Rifle Association as a dangerous entity, and some gun control advocates have acted like each member of the group is really just a terrorist or murderer in the making. This despite no evidence beyond just not favoring gun control.

Yet, as you may have known, Everytown for Gun Safety endorsed anti-gun attorney general candidate Jay Jones. Jones, however, is embroiled in controversy because, well, it's an absolute piece of fly dung who wants to kill his enemies and see their children murdered just because they don't see eye-to-eye on policy.

Yeah, totally rational, right?

As I noted last week, Everytown has quietly removed mention of their endorsement of Jones from their website, but they've done literally nothing else.

Now, the NRA is taking a shot at them over it.

The gun-control group donated to Jones’ campaign on August 26 and named him one of its “Gun Sense Candidates.” This designation is given by the gun-control group to candidates Everytown says have “demonstrated that they will support stronger gun laws and advocate for safer communities if elected into office.”

Shortly thereafter, news broke that Jones said in a series of text messages from 2022 that then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R) deserved “two bullets in the head.”

“Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones said to Del. Carrie Coyner (R) as he laid out a hypothetical “three people, two bullets” scenario in which he listed Gilbert alongside Hitler and Pol Pot, according to text messages obtained by National Review. “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time,” Jones said.

Jones said in a subsequent message that Speaker Gilbert was “breeding little fascists.”

Everytown then deleted its page endorsing Jones, but stopped short of disavowing his comments, rescinding the endorsement or issuing a statement.

Other gun-control groups seem to have followed Everytown’s playbook, choosing to quietly scrub their pages of mentions about Jones while refusing to comment. Only Brady has issued a statement: “Violent rhetoric has no place in our political process.”

Honestly, this is especially troubling after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Disavowing Jones explicitly would have been the tactically correct move for everyone. Just cut your losses there and hope you win in the other races, which might be easier with the Jones albatross hanging around everyone's neck.

Instead, they've just refused to even talk about it. Abigail Spanberger, who is running for governor, won't even address it. When challenged in a debate by her opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, as to what it would take to get her to say what it would take for Spanberger to say Jones should withdraw, Spanberger stood there looking smug.

They aren't saying anything.

I may not like Brady, but at least they took the morally consistent position of calling out the rhetoric, even if they might not have done much more than that.

It's not that hard to say, "Dude! If we'd known about this, we'd have never backed this loser," then direct all your efforts to other races.

They won't, though. They're just hoping it will all quietly go to bed and everyone will forget. That's not a completely insane hope, either, considering the mainstream media is unlikely to report any of it one way or another.

But we see how upset they are about "gun violence" in general.

The NRA sees it, too, so I won't be shocked to see this one come up for years to come when groups like Everytown try to pretend they're holier than thou.
