Colin Goddard's Disgusting Sandy Hook Lie

Not content with his own story as a wounded survivor of the Virginia Tech massacre on April 16, 2007, Colin Goddard, the Senior Policy Advocate for Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, is now rewriting history to claim that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is what drove him into becoming a gun control activist.

On a cold April morning in 2007, Colin Goddard called 911 for the first time in his life as a lone gunman opened fire on his intermediate French classroom in Virginia Tech. Today, he shared his story with a room of approximately 800 young leaders at the FORBES Under 30 Summit in Boston.

“I’m a firm believer in the idea that we as individuals should not be recognized for the things that happen to us, but the impact of what we do in the future,” said Goddard. “This opened my eyes to a world I knew very little about.”

Goddard was one of the seven in the classroom of 17 to survive that day. He still has three bullets in his hips and knee.

“The scars serve as a reminder of what happens when you let people have access to these guns,” he shared. “I was shocked to know that this [the gunman] was someone the school knew about but didn’t have the resources to follow up with.”

Yet he didn’t immediately join the the gun safety movement. It wasn’t until the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Mass., when he watched the victims on TV the same way the rest of the nation watched his tragedy at Virginia Tech, that something changed for Goddard. He has come to refer to this shift as his ‘Newtown moment.’

“I think the fact that it was an elementary school shook this country to its core,” he told Forbes. “People said, ‘Something has to change.’”

The following day, Goddard packed his bags and moved to Washington DC.

Goddard’s story is an abject and easily disproven lie, and we don’t have to go any further than his own resume for proof.

Yes, Goodard was a full-time professional gun control advocate in Washington, DC peddling lies for the Brady Campaign more than two years before the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting.

Goddard’s online profile, still posted at the Brady Campaign web site, clearly cites his own shooting as his reason for becoming an activist.

Colin Goddard’s whole life changed after surviving the Virginia Tech massacre on April 16, 2007.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, to English and American parents working in international development, Goddard grew up in Somalia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the United States. He completed high school in Cairo, Egypt, and returned to the US to graduate with a BA in International Studies from Virginia Tech in 2008.

While in his 4th year at Virginia Tech, Goddard was shot four times and was one of seven people, out of a classroom of seventeen, to survive the shooting. He still has three of the four bullets in his body as well as a titanium rod implanted in his left femur.

Now an activist at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Goddard uses his experience to educate others about the realities of gun violence and the problems in U.S. gun laws. The story of how he became involved in gun violence prevention is documented in the short film, Living for 32.

Goddard appears in numerous media interviews, engagement events, and spends time lobbying in Congress and state legislatures. He also uses the film to share his story in an effort to educate, advocate, and mobilize Americans to get involved in preventing gun violence.

Yes, Goddard starred in a 2010 movie which clearly cited the Virginia Tech shooting as he reason for becoming a gun control advocate. the video below was posted by ABC News on December 27, 2010.

The shooting at Sandy Hook happened on December 14, 2012.

It’s frankly disgusting that Goddard is attempting to coopt the murders of 20 children and six adults into part of his personal story in order to seek more fame and relevance.

That he would so boldly lie to 800 of his peers to their faces at FORBES Under 30 Summit in Boston, and to the rest of America, is truly deplorable.

If Michael Bloomberg had any decency he’d fire this disgusting liar, but if Bloomberg hired all the serial liars in his gun control projects, who would be left to work for him?
