Pizza Delivery Driver Thwarts Armed Robbery Attempt in Philadelphia

A 19-year-old armed robber targeted the wrong pizza delivery driver as his latest victim late Saturday night.

The delivery driver told authorities he was approached by the suspect in the 1400 block of Wellington Street in Northeast Philadelphia around 9:30PM. When the suspect demanded the driver’s money at gunpoint, the delivery driver drew his own weapon, took aim and shot him.

Authorities found the suspect at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The pizza delivery driver was unharmed in the incident and no charges have been filed against him at this time.

Saturday night was busy for law-abiding gun owners in Philly. Police were also dispatched to the 6800 block of Paschall Avenue earlier in the evening around 6:30PM after receiving reports of a shooting at an auto repair shop.

When officers arrived on scene, they found out the shooting victim was attempting an armed robbery of the auto repair shop when the owner shot the man 3 times.

According to FBI data, Pennsylvania saw a 0.1 percent increase in violent crime compared to 2014 and although Philadelphia’s violent crime rate rose only 1 percent, murders rose nearly 13 percent in that same time period.
